Three boatmen have been fined Rs 04 million each. The court has ordered that in case of failure to pay the fine amount, they will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year.
The trial of 31 Tamil Nadu fishermen who were arrested on two separate days on the charge of trespassing into the Nedundivu sea area and catching fish was held in the Municipal Police Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (06) the day before yesterday.
During the trial of the 22 Tamil Nadu sea workers who were arrested on June 22, 19 workers were sentenced to one year imprisonment and it was postponed for a period of five years. It is noteworthy that following the trial of the 09 Tamil Nadu fishermen who were arrested on 23rd July, the court has extended the detention of 09 people till the 20th.
