The Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert for strong winds and rough seas.
It is also mentioned that the wind speed in the seas surrounding the country will increase to 60-70 km per hour from time to time and the seas will be very turbulent at times.
Hence, the marine and fishing community has been advised not to venture into the marine areas until further notice.
Sea waves are likely to rise up to 2.5 – 3.0 meters from Kalpitiya to Pottu through Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Due to this there is a possibility of sea waves coming towards land from Kalpitiya, Colombo, Galle to Matara.
The fishing community has been informed to pay attention to the announcements issued by the Meteorological Department.
