Chennai drinking water lakes:

Chennai has been suffering from scorching summer heat for the last three months, and the water level of the main lakes supplying Chennai with drinking water has continued to fall and there was a risk of water shortage.

In this situation, the water level of the lakes continues to be neutral due to occasional rains in Chennai for the past few days.

Generally, the capital has a high demand for drinking water during summer. To meet this drinking water demand, drinking water is being distributed to the public from the lakes including Sembarambakkam Puzhal Poondi Cholavaram and from the Nemmeli sea water treatment plant.

The water level of these lakes is considered important as the city of Chennai is largely dependent on its drinking water supply from lakes. As a result, the public works department is constantly monitoring the inflow of water to Eri, the water level situation and the amount of water being discharged from the lakes.

In this situation, the current water level of Chennai’s drinking water lakes has been revealed.

Chennai Lakes Water Level Today:

Puzhal Lake has a total capacity of 3300 million kund and currently has a water reserve of 2823 cubic feet.

The total capacity of Chembarambakkam Lake is 3645 Mgft and currently 1056 Mgft of water is available.

Out of the total capacity of Cholavaram Lake of 1081 million cubic feet, there is currently 124 million cubic feet of water in reserve.

Boondi Lake has a total capacity of 3231 million cubic feet and currently holds 69 million cubic feet of water.

Veeranam Lake has a capacity of 1465 cubic feet and currently has a water reserve of 1331 cubic feet.

Also, there is currently 34 mm cubic feet of water in the Kannankot Teherai Kandigai Reservoir of 500 mm cubic feet.
