Siruvani Dam:

The public is happy as the water level of Siruvani Dam, which is the main source of drinking water in Coimbatore, is rising due to continuous rains.

Heavy rains have been issued in Coimbatore and Nilgiri districts today and tomorrow for heavy rains.

Heavy rain in Western Ghats:

Apart from this, South West Monsoon rains will occur in Coimbatore district from June to September, Meteorological Department has said that heavy rains are currently falling in Western Ghats including Coimbatore Courtalam, Poondi Velliangiri.

Due to this heavy rain, the water flow to the dams which are the main source of drinking water in Coimbatore has started increasing. In that way, the water flow has increased to Siruvani Dam located at the foothills of Coimbatore Western Ghats on Tamil Nadu Perazakhi border.

Increase in water flow:

It has been raining continuously in the water catchment areas of the dam for the last three days and yesterday an extra 120 mm of rain was recorded in the dam area.

Currently, the water level of Siruvani Dam is 14.53 feet out of the limited capacity of 45 feet. This means that the water level of the dam has risen by 3 feet in a single day.

Water level of major dams:

Similarly, water flow has also increased in other major dams of the district. Out of which, the current inflow to Cholayar Dam, which has a capacity of 165 feet, is 4490 cubic feet.

And the water flow to Parambikulam dam with a capacity of 72 feet is 281 cubic feet. 251 cubic feet of water per second is being released from the dam

Azhiyar Dam has a capacity of 120 feet and has an inflow of 450 cubic feet. 450 cubic feet of water per second is being released from the dam.
