Excavation work is going on on behalf of Tamil Nadu Archeology Department in Pudukottai District, Polpanaikottai, which is a Sangam settlement area. The 2nd phase of excavation work at Polpanaikottai started from 18th June last. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Stalin through a video presentation.

Discovery of Antiquities

In today’s excavation, five copper nails of various sizes have been found. A copper nail weighs 2 grams and measures 2.3 cm. m long and 1.2 cm. m thick.
Anjanakol
Until now only iron nails were available. In this case, it is noteworthy that nails made of copper are now available. Also, 3 cm used for eye makeup. It is also special to have found a m-long copper commemorative stick. He has posted that these artifacts show the cultural prosperity of the people who lived in Polpanaikottai.
