Flyover Alert:
When we rely on Google Maps to travel, especially on congested city roads, when a flyover comes up, many of us get confused whether to go up or down. A lot of times this small wrong decision has resulted in cases and many people traveling many extra kms.
Now Google has introduced a new feature called Flyover Callout (Flyover Alert) in the Maps app to solve that problem. With this facility the maps will clearly indicate whether we have to go up the flyover or down the flyover.
Google has informed that this facility will come to Android users and Android Auto users in a week. iOS users and Apple CarPlay users will have to wait a little longer. There is no information from Google about its release.
Currently this facility is being introduced in only 40 cities. The company has said that it will be available in all cities soon.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations:
With the improvement of electric vehicle infrastructure in India and the increasing number of electric vehicle users, we can now know the information about where there are electric vehicle chargers through maps.
Apart from the information about the location of the charger, we can also know the essential information like what kind of plug type is there and whether it is currently in use or not with the new update through Google Maps.
Google has partnered with four electric vehicle charging infrastructure providers – Aether, ElectricPay, Kassam and Static – to provide this facility. Through this we can know information about more than 8,000 charging stations across India through maps.
Narrow Path:
This will be a very useful update for those who drive cars or large vehicles. Sometimes we get stuck on narrow roads when we take a new route instead of the regular route on Google Maps. To avoid that, Google has introduced this new feature in Maps.
With this facility, Maps will predict and tell us if there is a narrow place on the route we are taking. Google has made this feature possible through AI. AI can gather satellite maps, street view photos and other information about a road to predict to users whether it is a narrow lane or not.
How practical this will be will be known only after using it. Currently this facility has been introduced in Chennai, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Indore and Guwahati in India. The company has announced that it will gradually introduce this facility in various cities.
Road accidents or road works:
This facility is an existing one. Google has improved it further. Through this facility, we can know if there are any accidents or road works on the road we are traveling on. Google has said that this facility will be more accurate than before.
Metro Ticket Booking:
We search Google for public transport facilities to get from one place to another. If there is a metro facility on the route we need to go while searching, the company has introduced the facility of taking metro tickets through Google Maps.
Google has joined hands with Namma Yatri and ONDC to implement this facility. While buying a metro ticket, you can even pay for it through Google Maps. The company has now introduced this facility in Kochi and Chennai. Other metro cities are likely to be connected soon.
