General Shavendra Silva has been reappointed as the Chief of Defense Forces.
This re-appointment has been given at the behest of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
In this regard, Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake issued a special gazette notification number 2387/43.
Accordingly, it has been mentioned in the said gazette notification that this appointment has been given for the period from 01st June 2024 to 31st December 2024.
A gazette notification has been issued under section 3 of the Chief of Defense Forces Act No. 35 of 2009 regarding the extension of the tenure of General Shavendra Silva.
It is noteworthy that General Shavendra Silva, who served as the 23rd Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and Acting Chief of Defense Forces, was appointed as the Chief of Defense Forces on 31st May 2022 after completing the post of Army Commander.
