The all-new third-generation Amaze:
The second generation Amaze model currently on sale was released in 2018. Honda has completely redesigned the upcoming third generation model.
Honda is going to use the same platform used for the Honda City and Elevate models that are currently on sale in India with a slight redesign for the third generation Amaze model.
Although the design of the new Amaze has some innovations, it seems to be based on the design of the current Amaze. Although the City and Elevate share the same platform, the wheelbase seems to be much shorter.
It is noteworthy that the wheelbase of the Amaze model currently on sale is 130 mm less than that of the City model. Honda is going to sell all cars based on the same platform in India, following the same platform as the Amaze model.
Interior New Design:
We can expect various innovations in the interior design of the third generation Amaze model. A host of new features including a larger and free-standing touchscreen setup will also be offered.
To keep the price of the new Amaze under control, Honda will be using the components and some features used in the City and Elevate models sold in India in the Amaze as well.
Petrol engine only:
Honda has stopped selling diesel engines in India. Currently, the Amaze model is sold only with the petrol engine. The same petrol engine will be used in the new Amaze as well.
This four-cylinder, 1.2-litre NA petrol engine is capable of producing 90hp of power and 110Nm of torque. Honda will offer a choice of 5-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox with this engine.
Will the new Amaze sedan be well received in India?
Currently, SUV craze is high in India. More than 50 percent of the cars sold in India every month are SUVs.
In the compact sedan segment, the Honda Amaze is sold around 23,000 to 24,000 cars every month. Maruti sells more than 60% of them. While sedan sales are on the decline overall, sales of the Amaze are also down.
But the Amaze is Honda’s entry-level car in India. Also, Amaze accounts for 25% of the company’s total sales.
The Amaze competes with the likes of the Hyundai Aura and the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. Maruti is also expected to launch an updated Dzire model in the next few months.
