Satellite customs payment system to be implemented soon.. No more waiting at customs booths.. How will it work?

FASTAKE Payment Mode at Tollbooths:

Earlier motorists used to travel by paying at toll booths on all national highways. Due to this system motorists had to wait in long queues at many toll booths.

Hence, FASTAKE system was implemented to reduce this long queue problem. In FASTag, which works on RFID technology, it is enough to stick a FASTag on the windshield of the car. Through that the money will be paid directly from our fastac account.

In this way, a vehicle only needs to wait a few seconds instead of waiting for a long time at the toll booths. In those few seconds, the scanner placed at the toll booths will scan the FASTag on our car windshield and take the money.

Satellite based customs charges:

Even in this fastac system, even if we have to travel a short distance on that particular road, we have to pay in full.

A satellite-based toll system is the answer to the question of traveling less distance on a toll road and paying only for it.

The Union Ministry of Transport and Highways has already said that in this mode, toll booths will not be required. This means that the toll road will initially feature a virtual toll booth.

Once we enter that road our vehicle will start being tracked by satellite. As far as we travel on that road, only that amount of money will be taken from our bank account.

Additional Features:

The current FASTag system has only prepaid facility. That means, we have to deposit money in our fastac account beforehand. If we don’t clear the money from customs to our FASTAKE account we will be fined.

However, it is said that both prepaid and postpaid facilities will be provided in this satellite based toll payment system.

Selected Highways:

Currently, the NH-275 national highway from Bengaluru to Mysore in Karnataka and the NH-709 national highway from Panipat to Hisar in Haryana have been selected for the first phase of testing this new satellite-based toll system.

It is said that this satellite-based toll payment system will initially work in hybrid mode along with FASTEG. But it is also said that in the near future, when this procedure is fully implemented, we will have to install a device with GNSS facility in our cars.

When this procedure is fully implemented, motorists will not need to wait at any toll booth in India. But there are various doubts about how flawless this method will be. It will be known only when this customs system is first implemented.
