Suspension of bail granted to Arvind Kejriwal; Delhi High Court order

The Delhi High Court has temporarily suspended the decision of the trial court granting bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy violation case.

The Delhi High Court on Friday granted an interim stay on the trial court’s order granting bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy violation case.

While the Delhi Chief Minister is in judicial custody, the High Court is expected to announce its verdict by June 25. A day earlier, the trial court had granted maximum bail to the Aam Aadmi Party. Special Judge Niya Bindu rejected the ED’s plea to stay the bail order for 48 hours. Following this, the Enforcement Directorate filed a petition in the Delhi High Court today challenging the regular bail granted to Kejriwal.

Three months ago, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor policy scam. The CBI is also investigating the case separately. Kejriwal is lodged in Tihar Jail. Arrested on March 21, he was released on interim bail last month and surrendered on June 2 after campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections.

“Kejriwal was directly involved in the formulation of the now defunct Delhi Excise policy,” ET had earlier alleged. It said that ET secured unfettered access in view of the concessions to be made to the Southern Group, unnecessary”. Concessions have reached stakes in established wholesale businesses and several retail businesses, in exchange for Aam Aadmi leaders paying Rs. 100 crore paid.
