Tuticorin Panimaya Mata Temple 442nd Annual Cathedral Festival begins with flag hoisting

The world famous Thoothukudi Banimaya Matha Temple Festival started with flag hoisting.

The world famous Panimaya Matha Temple is located on Tuticorin Beach Road. A very special 10 days festival is held in this temple every year. This year’s 442nd year festival started today with flag hoisting. Prior to the flag hoisting in the morning, a joint Mass was held under the leadership of Diocesan Bishop Stephen Anthony and Panimaya Mata Parish Bishop Starwin.

Following this, the Reverend Fathers brought the flag engraved with the image of Panimayamata in a procession and the members of the public held the flag and hoisted it on the flagpole in front of the Cathedral under the leadership of Bishop Stephen. At that time, the cry of Hail Mary of thousands of devotees gathered there resounded through the sky. Also the devotees flew pigeons and balloons and people clapped their hands to express their happiness. Minister Geetha Jeevan, Mayor Jagan Periyasamy, District Head Lakshmipathi and many other important leaders participated in the ceremony.

The festival which started today with flag hoisting will be held for ten days in the morning and in the evening and the main event of the festival on August 5th will be the Mother’s Chariot Bhavani. 900 policemen under the leadership of District Superintendent of Police Balaji Saravanan are engaged in security.
