At least 155 people have been killed in floods and landslides following heavy rains in the East African country of Tanzania. More than 2 lakh people have lost their homes due to rain and floods.

Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urged people living in low-lying areas to move to safer places as heavy rains due to El Nino are expected to last until May.

More than 51,000 families are said to have been affected by the floods. Meanwhile, people in countries including Kenya and Burundi have been hit hard due to heavy rains.

It has been reported that more than 40 people have died due to floods caused by heavy rains in Kenya. Late last year, heavy rains and floods killed more than 300 people in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia.
