E Pass : It has been announced that it is mandatory for those going to Ooty and Kodaikanal to carry e-pass for vehicles from 7th May.
Now that the summer season has started and it is the vacation season for schools and colleges, the inflow of tourists has started to increase in the hilly areas. Due to this, various petitions were filed in Madras High Court as public interest petitions to protect the environment.
The hearing on these public interest petitions was earlier heard by a bench headed by Justices Satish Kumar and Bharatha Chakraborty of the Madras High Court. In the hearing, Dindigul and Nilgiri District Collectors appeared through video. At that time, the District Collector said that about 20 thousand vehicles including 1300 vans are coming to Ooty every day.
Following this, in the interim order issued by the High Court Judge, it was said that if such vehicular traffic is high, it will be a danger to the environment and the local people will be greatly affected.
Later, until the environmental department of IIT, IIM submits an environmental safety report on Ooty and Kodaikanal, as an interim measure, the e-pass procedure followed during the Corona period should be brought in and this e-pass procedure should be effective from May 7 to June 30. , the court said that the Tamil Nadu government should quickly arrange the action plans for this.
In the e-pass, the details of the vehicle, how many people are traveling in the vehicle and how many days they will be staying should be mentioned in the High Court order. The court order also mentioned that this e-pass is not applicable to local people.
