A large number of tourists visit Ooty in the Nilgiris district every year during the summer months of April and May.

Traffic congestion
The road curves from Coonoor to Ooty is full of potholes. Tourists face difficulties due to traffic congestion during the summer season when tourists are more frequent.

Coonoor-Ooty Bypass
In order to solve this, the highway department has started construction of detour route between Coonoor and Ooty. A bypass is being constructed so that vehicles coming from Mettupalayam can go directly to Ooty instead of Coonoor.

Mettupalayam Coonoor
The newly constructed detour will allow vehicles coming from Mettupalayam on the Coonoor hill pass to reach Ooty via Kateri, Selas, Kendala, Kethi Palada, Kollimalai, Gandhi Petty.

South West Monsoon
In this situation, the public has demanded that the work on the suburban road being constructed from Katteri area to Ooty should be completed as soon as possible before the onset of southwest monsoon.

The rain will last
In the Nilgiris, the southwest monsoon starts from the first week of June every year. This rain lasts from two months to four months. Therefore, when it is raining, there will be a situation where construction work, road maintenance work, road construction work, bridge construction work etc. cannot be carried out.

Request
Therefore, the public and motorists have requested that the highway department should speed up the road maintenance work for the onset of southwest monsoon.
