The police went to Delhi and arrested journalist Felix Gerald and raided his house for a simple defamation case. Why this test operation? Will it not affect his family and dependents? If it was wrong to arrest Felix Gerald for speaking to Chawku Shankar, is it not a fascist move to raid his house now?
Chief Minister Stalin, who raised his voice against the repression of journalists like Siddiqui Kappan and Rana Ayyub, should be ashamed of the arrest and repression of journalist Tambi Felix Gerald during his regime.
Similarly, the action of the DMK government, which has passed the thug law on political critic Thambi Chavku Shankar, is condemnable. While cases have already been filed under the Indian Penal Code for his comments on the police, the current Gangster Detention Act is unnecessary;
It was a political vendetta that landed him in jail for a year. Applying the Gang Detention Act to defamation cases, which was brought in to arrest those who disturb the social peace, those who cause harm to the society and those who have a background of countless criminal cases, is a blatant abuse of power.
I strongly oppose it. Along with this, it is shocking that Chauhan Shankar has told that his life is in danger inside the Coimbatore Central Jail. It is our duty to vehemently oppose the attacks on him inside the prison, if they are true while completely contradicting his views. It can never be accepted or approved.
If we evaluate the political stances and activities of Chavku Shankar and tolerate these violent activities by the police, we should realize that tomorrow, similar torture and attacks can happen to anyone.
