80A senior official of the Railway Department said that only 32 train services have been canceled today (7) morning due to the negligence of the train drivers.
The official added that the number of canceled trains will increase in the afternoon.
The train engine drivers have started a strike since midnight with several demands.
It is reported that the industry has embarked on action based on many problems including delay in second class promotion, delay in recruitment.
Senanayake, secretary of the Locomotive Operating Engineers Association, said that the drivers of only two of the five railway stations are on strike and due to this the electric train will not run.
However, it was also reported that the industrial action was by the drivers themselves based on the promotion issue of 84 train drivers.
