A worker was killed on the spot when the surrounding wall collapsed during the construction of a sewage canal on behalf of Perur Municipal Corporation of Coimbatore district.
Coimbatore Perur Municipality administration is working to construct a waste water canal from the north road behind the Pattisuwar temple to the Noyal river. For this purpose, a pit was dug for a distance of about 200 meters and while the works were being carried out, the work of closing the pit was done today.
For this, two JCP machines were brought in and the work was done. At that time, Velmurugan (49) from Theni district was working there. Then unexpectedly the surrounding wall of the old wedding hall collapsed.
Velmurugan was caught in the construction accident and died on the spot. The Perur police who got the information rescued Velmurugan’s body with the help of the fire department and sent it to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy.
Moreover, the Perur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
It is noteworthy that Velmurugan was the only one who was working near the perimeter wall as the work of closing the pits was going on while usually more than 10″ workers were working.
