Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women is working under the Department of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights to protect women, address women’s problems and improve the living conditions of women.

This Commission, which was established and functioning from 19.03.1993 through an Ordinance, has been functioning as a Statutory Body since 30.07.2008. Finally, this Commission was reconstituted on 11.02.2022 and is functioning smoothly under the leadership of A.S. Kumari.

Women victims of crimes against women are submitting complaints to the Tamil Nadu State Women’s Commission directly, through e-mail and by post. For these, the commission is trying to find appropriate solutions with the help of police, judicial department, district governors, district social welfare officers, security officers, integrated service centers, voluntary social organizations and some complaints are being resolved quickly through direct investigations.

When women are victimized in public, the Commission itself initiates investigations into such problems. The Women’s Commission is operating a free legal services center with the help of the State Legal Affairs Commission to provide legal advice to women facing domestic violence, property problems and unexpected hardships.

Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women has been conducting many seminars on prevention of violence against women, laws and rights for women, safety of women on social media, helpline numbers for women and creating awareness among women. Also, students studying undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as law, social work, sociology, public administration are benefiting from in-house training here.

Therefore, the work of the Women’s Commission has been created for the first time for the commission because women want to know all the information through the internet in such a way that all the girls can reach them and they can travel.

Its address is www.tnwomencommission.tn.gov.in. The website provides detailed information on the Commission’s organization, functions, media contacts, women’s laws and relevant departments.

Also, in future, steps are being taken to provide a separate link on this website so that women can register their complaints through the website, to ensure transparency in the actions taken on them by the commission, and to monitor the delayed action on the complaints. Through this, women can register their complaints through the internet and easily know about the pending office details and investigation status.
