Violence broke out again in Bangladesh – 91 people lost their lives

The death toll has risen to 91 in Bangladesh’s resurgent anti-government protests.

The student organizations have been involved in a series of protests across the country against the provision of 30 percent reservation in government jobs to the families of the martyrs who participated in the Bangladesh liberation struggle in 1971. More than 200 people died in the violence during these protests. Later, the Bangladesh Supreme Court intervened in the matter and temporarily suspended the law providing 30 percent reservation to martyrs’ families in government jobs.

As a result of this, peace has returned to the country, yesterday the students started protesting again to demand the resignation of the government led by Prime Minister Haig Hasina. Then, violence broke out between the protesters and the ruling Awami League party workers. 91 people died in this violence. Following this, the Bangladesh Home Office has announced that the curfew will be enforced across the country.

Meanwhile, the central government has advised Indians in Bangladesh to stay safe and stay in touch with the embassy in Dhaka.
