IPL 2024 : In yesterday’s match in the IPL series, the Punjab team chased the Himalayan target and created a new historical record.
In the 42nd match of the IPL series held yesterday, Punjab Kings team and Kolkata team clashed. In this match, Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first. Due to this, the Kolkata team who came into the batting field overwhelmed the bowlers of the Punjab team. Once again Kolkata scored 250+ runs in this IPL series.
That means Kolkata scored 261 runs in 20 overs losing 6 wickets. Setting a Himalayan target like this is not new in this IPL series and then Punjab’s Bairstow and Shashank Singh, who came in next, won the target with 10 balls to spare and created the biggest record in T20Is.
In other words, the Punjab team set the record for chasing the most runs in a T20 match yesterday. Earlier in T20 matches, South Africa’s chase of 259 against West Indies was the biggest record. Now the Punjab team has broken that record.
Now let’s look at the top 4 lists of most runs chased in T20 Internationals, Domestic T20s overall.
Teams who chased the most runs
Punjab is at the top of the list, reaching the target of 262. South Africa became the second team to score 259 against the West Indies in a T20I in 2023. As the 3rd team in this list, the Middlesex team has reached the target of 253 runs against the Surrey team in the ‘T20 Blast’ series in England.
They are the 4th team to set a target of 244 in 2018 against Australia and New Zealand. 200 runs has become commonplace in this ongoing IPL series. It is noteworthy that not only 262 but 280 runs, why even reaching 300 runs will not be a big deal.
