All this is mandatory before the opening of the school; Education Department directive to head teachers

As schools are set to open on June 6 in Tamil Nadu, the Director of School Education has issued guidelines on the procedures to be followed when schools open.

The Department of Education has announced that schools in Tamil Nadu will reopen on June 6 after the summer vacation. Schools will open on June 6 for the academic year 2024-2025 for classes 1 to 12. After this, all the primary education officers have been instructed to take necessary steps to start the schools on the specified day.

In this situation, the school education department has issued various orders to the head teachers regarding the work to be done in the schools before the opening of the schools. The circular published in this regard states;

It should be ensured that all the classrooms, head teacher’s room, laboratory, toilets and other rooms in the school and the premises are well cleaned. Also, it should be ensured that the furniture, door and windows, learning and teaching equipment in the classrooms, headmaster’s room and other rooms are thoroughly cleaned.

Obsolete laboratory materials should be properly registered and disposed of. It should be ensured that there is a proper path for rainwater drainage and that the rainwater collection structure is properly maintained and in use by removing the debris accumulated on the surface of the school building.

If there are open wells, steps should be taken to cover them so that no one can access them and these steps should be completed before the school starts. Ensure that cesspools are covered and secured. Ensure that all areas used by students in the school are disinfected

The Headmaster and all the teachers of the school should realize that they are fully responsible for the complete safety of the students within the school premises. If there are dilapidated buildings or dilapidated perimeter walls in the school premises, it should be ensured that appropriate measures are taken to prevent students from accessing such buildings.

Ensure that sufficient quantities of soap/detergent solution are kept and used for hand cleaning both inside and outside of restrooms used by students and teachers. Headmaster and teachers should ensure that all electrical devices and switches in the school are working properly.

It should be ensured that the trees do not fall easily by removing the broken branches of the trees located within the school premises and the branches obstructing the buildings. Ensure that students are fully enrolled in class 1 on school opening day. Admission celebration should be held on the opening day of the school. This is stated in the circular.
