Public Learn is a platform that directs users to free courses from the world’s leading universities. The site is run by Regent Global and funded by Sri Lankan diaspora in the UK to launch it in Sri Lanka.
The President officially launched the Public Learning Platform for the Sri Lankan Youth Community.
Addressing the event, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka should move fast with digitization for a new economic transformation.
Pointing out that education in Sri Lanka, which was born with the arrival of Mahinda Thera, gradually spread under 03 levels, the President also noted that today it has progressed to the level of sharing knowledge on an open platform with digitization.
The President also thanked Regent Global’s Finance Minister Selva Pankaj and others for making this benefit available to the people of Sri Lanka.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe who also commented said,
First of all I would like to thank Kalanithi Selva Pankaj for providing this benefit to the people of Sri Lanka. Today we live in a knowledge society. It is necessary to advance competitively in that society. I believe this is not a difficult task as we are a leading country in education.
Currently, we are working to correct the deficiencies in the education sector. This new project will contribute well to that. Prof. Kevin explained well the importance of such a program and its objectives.
However, a new economic transformation requires a change in our approach. Surely we can achieve it.
The future will need to focus on classrooms and learning opportunities outside of school without walls. One such project begins today.
I believe this will be an opportunity to overcome the challenge of lack of skilled and experienced teachers in the classrooms. Also, this project will be a unique opportunity for me to improve the lives of Sri Lankans and bring digital transformation in the country.
Educational progress in our country has been carried out under 03 levels. Privenak education was first introduced when Mahinda Thera came to Sri Lanka with Buddhism.
Senarat Paranavithana said that those who are not eligible for salvation have spent time planning the canals, sigiriya and other buildings and sanitary structures that belong to us.
Secondly, the British came and started the government school structure. It is now spreading across the country. We call them Maha Vidyalayam, Madhya Maha Vidyalayam. After that we brought the concept of prestigious and national schools and now the whole school system has developed.
Now we have reached the third stage of education. It means to digitize the education system and use the knowledge in an open platform. We are focused on the digital economy. Where modern knowledge is expected to be used. Because nation can progress only by using knowledge.
I think some people in Parliament need to understand what the 21st century economy is. We can conduct some classes for them too,” said the President.
Former Education Secretary of the United Kingdom, Sir Gravin Williamson, joined the event online.
The growth of public learning provides a great opportunity for people of all ages to build skills needed for careers, earn more money, and improve their education to contribute more effectively to society worldwide.
It has provided the necessary platform for Sri Lankans today to make a difference in people’s lives and build a prosperous Sri Lanka of the future. Accordingly, you need to ensure that you have the knowledge to compete on the global stage.
I would like to thank everyone who gave me the opportunity to participate in this event and I pray that this program will help bring a new change in the lives of the people of Sri Lanka.
Kalanithi Selva Pankaj, Chief Executive Officer, Regent Global;
We are delighted that President Ranil Wickremesinghe is here to support the program of creating a new economic transformation in Sri Lanka. It must be said that the President who dedicated most of his life as a former Prime Minister and current President to the people of Sri Lanka is a role model for us.
He was able to successfully steer Sri Lanka through the turbulent situation we all witnessed from the 70% inflation recorded in 2022. We are proud to be a small part of the President’s plan to improve the quality of life of Sri Lankans. I would like to remind here that my wife and I spent our early life in Sri Lanka.
Before the Civil War we had to go to England aged 13 and 19. But we have not forgotten our motherland. We always want to contribute to Sri Lanka’s future development. So the President has given us an opportunity for that today
