Approaching Southwest Monsoon:

The Chennai Municipal Corporation is ready to start the work of clearing the rain water drains ahead of the southwest monsoon in Chennai.

Floods are inevitable in Chennai during every monsoon. During the rains, Chennai is flooded.

Drilling of drains:

In this situation, the Chennai Municipal Corporation has decided to start the work of clearing the rainwater drains before the monsoon. For this, a total of Rs 7.50 crore has been allocated to each zone at Rs 50 lakh each.

Encroachment Removal Works:

Not only this, Chennai Municipal Corporation has also taken steps to remove water bodies such as Adyar, Coovam and Buckingham Canal in Chennai due to encroachment. This is the biggest reason for Chennai city to get flooded especially as not only cottages but also large buildings have encroached on the above water bodies.

Due to these encroachments, there is a major problem of flooding in Chennai during monsoons. In this situation, when the High Court has ordered the complete removal of the encroachments in the water bodies, the Chennai Corporation officials have started focusing on the removal of the encroachments.

In this way, the encroachment survey work on Buckingham Canal in Chennai has already been completed and the residents have been allocated a new place, but the residents of the area are said to be reluctant to go there.

As the encroachment survey work is going on in the Koovam river, the arrangements for allotment of houses to the residents in other places will start soon.

Following this, it is said that it has been decided to carry out the work of removing encroachments from next month i.e. June. Regarding this, the Corporation officials have said, “Due to the parliamentary election guidelines, the work of removing encroachments on the Chennai water body has not been started.

In this situation, once the election results are announced and the regulations are withdrawn, after June 4, the encroachment removal work will start, and before that, the people in the encroached areas will be allotted houses in other places,” they said.
