400cc Bikes:
Currently the only bikes sold in the 400cc segment are the Triumph Speed 400, KTM 390, Bajaj Daminar 400, Husqvarna 401 and Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z in India. That means they are being sold as 400cc bikes with a single cylinder engine. Of these, only the Triumph Speed 400 has recorded sales as high as the NS400Z. The Triumph 400 bike has recorded sales of 2,135 units in the month of June alone.
Other 400cc Bikes for Sale:
Coming third behind the Triumph Speed 400 is the KTM 390 bike with sales of 698 units. It was followed by Bajaj Daminar 400 with 375 units sold and Husqvarna 401 with 88 units.
What message do the ‘numbers’ convey?
If you ask whether Bajaj’s new NS400Z has attracted customers from luxury bike makers with a lot of features, the answer is no. There is no significant difference between May and June sales of the aforementioned 400cc bikes. Apart from the sales of those bikes it has to be said that the Pulsar NS400Z has brought new customers into the 400cc segment.
This means that Bajaj has drawn customers into the 400cc segment who are planning to buy the NS200 or other 200cc and 250cc bikes. Bajaj has launched the new Pulsar NS400Z at a price of Rs 1.84 lakh.
Bajaj’s Pulsar NS200 is priced at Rs 1.42 lakh ex-showroom. The Pulsar RS200 bike is priced at Rs 1.72 lakh. The price difference between Bajaj’s new NS400Z and the company’s other 200cc bikes is Rs 12,000 to Rs 40,000.
So, the company is attracting those 200cc customers towards their 400cc bike. Bajaj is bringing new customers into the 400cc segment who have never thought of 400cc bikes before. The sales of the bike in the coming months can confirm this claim.
Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z:
Bajaj has used a 373.3cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine in the new Pulsar NS400Z. The same engine is also used in the Daminar 400 bike. This is the engine of KTM introduced in the KTM 390 bike. Bajaj bikes have been slightly tuned and used.
This engine is capable of producing 40hp of power and 35Nm of torque. Bajaj claims that the new NS400Z can reach a top speed of 154 kmph with the help of this engine.
Apart from this, Bajaj has also provided four riding modes, 3 level traction control, switchable dual channel ABS and color LCD dash in this Pulsar NS400Z bike.
