Trying to beautify
In this initiative, the works are being carried out with a focus on continuous improvement of the station facilities keeping in view the future to fulfill the long term demand. The project involves the design and implementation of master plans in a phased manner to improve the accessibility of railway stations, surrounding areas, waiting rooms, toilets at stations and installation of lifts/escalators as required.
Nature
Apart from this, priority is given to cleanliness, provision of free Wi-Fi, promotion of local products through initiatives such as one station one product, improvement of passenger information systems, establishment of executive lounges, designated areas for business meetings and landscaping as per the needs of each station.
Infrastructure
Work is underway to upgrade the airport infrastructure to create separate entry and exit points (departure and arrival) at many of the railway stations for the convenience of passengers. At present, 1,318 stations are earmarked for development/renovation under this scheme. Meanwhile, 1,251 stations are said to have already been developed under the Adarsh Stations scheme in the Indian Railways network.
