Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, said that these books were donated for the further studies of students studying Sinhala at Yunnan University.
He also said that through this, he hopes to strengthen relations between the University of Jayawardenepura and Chinese universities that teach Sinhala.It includes 200 books belonging to various fields like Sinhala language, literature, culture, society, and art.
Appreciating this donation, Prof. Liu Shusen, Dean of Yunnan University’s School of Foreign Languages, said that in return, he hopes to donate a stock of Chinese language books to Sri Jayewardenepura University in the near future.
He also said that Yunnan University would like to express its gratitude and respect to the University of Sri Jayawardenepura for this donation of Sinhala books, especially to the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. ShiranthaHeenkenda.
Under the initiative of Sugath Ratnayake, lecturer of the Sinhala Studies Department of Yunnan University, the “Sri Lanka–ChinaFriendship Library” was established in the School of Foreign Languages of Yunnan University in 2022 with a donation of 1000 books.
