The cheapest car in India right now is the Alto K10. Until a few years ago, it was the most purchased small hatchback model by Indian customers.

Maruti Suzuki has used a 1.0 liter petrol engine in this car that can produce 66hp.

This hatchback model is being sold in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs.3.99 lakh. We can buy this car at an on-road price of Rs 4.66 lakh to Rs 7.05 lakh.

The CNG variants of the Alto K10 start at Rs 5.70 lakh ex-showroom (Rs 6.75 lakh on-road).

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso:

Those who want a new car, want a small car but don’t want a hatchback can consider Maruti’s other model, the S-Presso.

The S-Presso model has the same amenities as the Alto. But the design alone has an SUV-like look to it.

The S-Presso is powered by the same 1.0-litre petrol engine that churns out 66hp in the Alto.

The S-Presso model is priced between Rs 4.26 lakh and Rs 6.11 lakh ex-showroom. Its on-road price starts at Rs 4.98 lakh.

Maruti is also selling the S-Presso in a variant with an automatic gearbox and a variant with a CNG option.

The CNG variant is priced at Rs 5.91 lakh (Rs 6.99 on-road) and the automatic variant is priced at Rs 5.76 lakh (Rs 6.82 lakh on-road).

Renault Kwid:

No other company has been able to counter Maruti’s dominance in the budget car segment. But with the launch of this Kwid model, Renault started to compete with Maruti on par.

The Kwid is one of Renault’s most successful cars in India. The Kwid also uses the same engine that Maruti has in the Alto and S-Presso.

Renault has offered a 1.0-litre petrol engine in the Qvit that churns out 67hp.

The Renault Kwid is priced between Rs 4.69 lakh and Rs 6.32 lakh in India. We can buy it at an on-road price of Rs 5.48 lakh to Rs 7.48 lakh.

Renault is also selling automatic gearbox variants of this Kwid model. The variants with automatic gearbox start at Rs 5.44 lakh (Rs 6.44 lakh on-road).

Maruti Suzuki Celerio:

The above mentioned three cars alone are being sold under Rs.5 Lakhs.

Another budget car from Maruti, the Celerio, is priced at a little over Rs 5 lakh. However, it is noteworthy that Maruti’s newly launched Celerio Dream Edition has been launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 4.99 lakh.

Maruti has used the same 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces 66hp that is used in the Alto and S-Presso.

However, the Celerio model is slightly bigger and more practical than the other two cars.

Apart from the Dream Edition, other variants of the Celerio are priced between Rs 5.36 lakh and Rs 7.14 lakh ex-showroom. It can be bought at on-road prices ranging from Rs 6.35 lakh to Rs 8.45 lakh.

The newly launched Celerio Dream Edition will be priced at Rs 5.83 lakh on-road.
