In Chennai, the first phase of metro rail service is in use on 2 lines for a distance of 54 km. Metro trains are running on the first route from Airport to Vimco Nagar and on the second route from Parangimalai to Chennai Central.

The second phase of the metro rail project is planned to be completed on three lines for a length of 116.1 km and work is in progress.
Phase 2 Metro
In this, the metro trains will be operated on three routes namely Madhavaram Dairy Farm – Sirucherry Chipgat, Lighthouse – Poontamalli Workhouse, Madhavaram Dairy Farm – Choshinganallur. The construction work for this is going on.
Metro Station
Modern facilities have been introduced to collect tickets at metro stations. To avoid crowding at metro station ticket counters, public can easily buy tickets through internet and mobile phone apps.
Also to reduce the use of paper, digital ticket issuance scheme through WhatsApp at the counters has also been introduced.
Network problem
In this situation, the mobile phone signal is often blocked in subway metro stations, so it is not possible to buy tickets online immediately. Due to this, passengers suffer in getting tickets online.
Passenger inconvenience
Metro train passengers are reporting that mobile phone signal is interrupted and network problem occurs whenever the metro train is running in the tunnels in Chennai. They also say that they are unable to answer calls on mobile phones.
