CNG and LNG buses instead of diesel.-oneindia news

Electric buses, CNG (compressed natural gas) and LNG (liquefied natural gas) buses are being used in various states across the country to protect the environment. While the use of CNG has become widespread in places including Delhi, its use has only recently started in Tamil Nadu.

CNG is already being used in vehicles like autos and cars. In Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to run buses using CNG and LNG as an environment-friendly alternative to diesel.

In continuation of this, a total of 6 buses have been prepared for operation in the first phase on a trial basis, namely 4 LNG buses from Chennai Manak, Villupuram Transport Corporation and 2 CNG buses from Kumbakonam Transport Corporation.

Transport Minister Shiva Sang inaugurated the operation of these buses which will be operated between West Saitappettai – Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram – Poontamalli, Ramanathapuram – Periyapatnam – Sayalkudi in a function held at the workshop on Pallavan Road, Chennai.

Fuel cost will be reduced by using CNG buses. At present MTC operates 20160 diesel buses. 1.76 crore rupees are spent daily on diesel alone. Of this, 27 percent is said to be spent on diesel alone. However, this cost will be reduced by running CNG and LNG buses.

Also, these buses are environmentally friendly as they emit no smoke. If the performance of these buses, which are currently being run on a trial basis, is good, these bus services will be increased and the service of these buses will be expanded throughout Tamil Nadu.
