Tamil Nadu Congress Party President Selvaperunthagai has said that compensation for the loss of human lives cannot be compensated for.
In a statement issued by him in this regard, “The incident in which 15 passengers including the loco pilot of the freight train were killed in an accident yesterday morning in West Bengal when a freight train collided with the Kanchan Janga Express passenger train is shocking and saddening. On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Congress, I offer my deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased.
The increasing number of railway accidents in the last 10 years reveals the mismanagement and negligence of the Narendra Modi government. Frequent train accidents and fatalities are the result of not taking precautionary measures for the safety of passengers.
The authorities have been using the National Railway Safety Fund created in 2017 to increase their own facilities for the safety of passengers. For this, Rs.1 lakh crore has been allocated for five years. This taxpayer money should be used to ensure passenger safety. But it was not used for that purpose, it was mentioned in the CAG report of 2021. These funds were diverted and spent on the construction of houses and hostels for railway officials. Expensive vehicles were also rented and used from this fund.
The CAG said the funds were continuously spent on non-essential items. The statistics bear witness. The CAG said that Rs.463 crore was spent in 2017-18, Rs.837 crore in 2018-19 and Rs.1004 crore in 2019-20. says In its report, the CAG has alleged with evidence that the funds supposed to be used for passenger safety were misused to buy luxury goods. No further evidence is needed to prove negligence on the part of the Railways. The Narendra Modi government is responsible for the frequent train accidents as the allocated funds are not spent on passenger safety.
Compensation for loss of human life cannot compensate for the loss. Such rail accidents can be prevented by taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of passengers to prevent such losses. “I strongly condemn the Narendra Modi government for acting with indifference towards the safety of passengers and causing the loss of life of passengers,” he said
