Corruption in Tasmac Liquor Imports; Rs 30 crore loss to Tamil Nadu government: CAG report

Principal Chief Accountant Jai Shankar in Chennai spoke to reporters regarding the CAG report on the report for the financial year 2021-2022 placed in the Legislative Assembly.

Speaking in this regard, he said, “In the case of Tasmac liquor procurement, corruption in liquor import as the same persons were continuously selected in the auction. Although the price of Tasmac liquor has been increased, the corresponding tax has not been paid to the government. This resulted in a loss of Rs.30.50 crore to the Tamil Nadu government. Tasmac Liquor Shops have been charged extra for buying bottles of liquor through cash transactions through ATM cards;

It is the duty of the Tamil Nadu government to avoid allegations related to Tasmac. In Tamil Nadu only 12% tenders are held electronically. Everything else is done in the old manual way. “The function of audit is to improve the functioning of the government,” he said.
