The competitive bids for the 50 MW project of the Electricity Board have been announced. The purchase price of a 50 MW unit is USD 4.8. The Leader of the Opposition pointed out here that the purchase price of a unit of 500 MW wind power generation, which was not competitively priced, was found to be 8.26 dollars.
According to this, government theft has taken place in the open. The United People’s Power has repeatedly requested not to decide the price for the 500 MW generation project until the price of the 50 MW generation project is known through tender. The Leader of Opposition also said that without listening to them, the Cabinet has illegally appointed a committee and approved the 500 MW project at a higher price before the release of the fixed price of the second tender.
The Public Utilities Commission has delayed this process. The 500 MW contract, which avoids competitive bidding, has sought the approval of the Attorney General. Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said that there is no answer to all these yet.
