Various foreign automakers, including Indian automakers, are constantly taking new initiatives to increase their electric car sales in the Indian automobile market. Well, let’s see which are the top 10 companies that sold the most electric cars in India last April.

1. Tata Motors:

If Maruti is the largest seller of fuel cars in India, it is Tata Motors for electric cars. Last April alone, the company sold 4,956 electric cars. This is 10.04% higher than last year. Also, Tata holds 66.84 percent of the Indian electric car market.

Tata Motors is currently selling four electric cars in India namely Tiago EV, Decor EV, Punch EV and Nexon EV. The company is selling electric cars starting at Rs 7.99 lakh and going up to Rs 19.29 lakh. Apart from this, it also has many more electric vehicles in the line-up for launch.

2. MG Motor:

After Tata, foreign carmaker MG Motor is second in the list. Last April alone, the company sold 1,203 electric cars. This is 243.71% higher than April last year. MG Motor sold only 350 electric cars in April last year.

MG Motor is selling two electric car models in India namely Comet EV and ZS EV. MG Motor is selling the Comet EV at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh and the ZS EV at a starting price of Rs 18.98 lakh.

3. Mahindra:

Indian carmaker Mahindra has been investing heavily in electric cars, following Tata. Last April it sold 629 cars and is third in this list. However, it is noteworthy that Mahindra is currently selling only one electric car model in India namely XUV 400. Mahindra is selling the XUV 400 electric car at a starting price of Rs.15.49 lakh.

Next, the company is planning to release various electric cars. As part of that, Mahindra is currently testing the XUV.e8, XUv.e9 and BE.05 on Indian roads to launch three electric cars in succession.

4. BYD:

Chinese electric car maker BYD sold 138 electric cars in India last April. This is a decline of 15.85% compared to April last year. BYD is selling three electric cars in India namely E6, Atto 3 and Seal. The company is only selling electric cars priced above Rs.25 lakh and not at budget prices.

5. Citron:

Currently, Citroen is only selling the eC3 electric car model in India. Last April, the company sold 128 cars. This is a 46.67% decline in sales compared to April last year. Citroen is selling the eC3 electric model in India at a price between Rs 11.61 lakh and Rs 13.35 lakh. Citroen doesn’t have as many electric vehicle plans for India as other companies.

6. Mercedes-Benz:

It is very rare for luxury car companies to feature in the best selling cars list. But because there is not much competition in the electric car market and Mercedes has introduced more electric car models in India than the budget car companies, the company has been included in this list.

Mercedes currently sells four electric cars in India namely EQB, EQE, EQS and EQS AMG. Last April alone, the company sold 128 luxury electric cars in India. While the company sold just 30 electric cars in April last year, this is a growth of 326.67%.

7. Other Institutions:

Mercedes is followed by Hyundai, BMW, Volvo and Kia at the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th positions respectively. These companies sold less than 100 electric cars last April.

Hyundai, which sells two electric cars in India, Kona and Ioniq 5, sold only 85 units in April last year. BMW sold 54 units, Volvo sold 38 electric cars and Kia sold 20 electric cars last April. Among these, Hyundai and Volvo’s electric car sales have increased compared to April last year, while BMW and Kia’s electric car sales have declined.
