Recently, the incidence of dog bites has been increasing all over Tamil Nadu. Even two months ago, a 5-year-old girl was bitten by Rottweiler dogs in Chennai, and the girl’s skull was torn open. The girl was hospitalized and returned home after intensive treatment. Similarly, a large number of people are suffering from dog bites all over Tamil Nadu and are suffering serious injuries or death.

In that way, an incident in Tenkasi has caused tragedy and also raised awareness about dog bites. Muthiah hails from Kadayanallur in Tenkasi district. He was 50 years old and used to do laundry. He had a wife and 3 children.

Meanwhile, he bought a puppy a few years ago and raised it like his own child. That dog is also alive on him. She was not separated from Muthiah for even a day. In this context, the dog has gone out two months ago.

At that time, a rabid dog wandering around the street bit Muthiya’s house dog. As a result, his dog also became rabid in a few days. So he chained the dog and kept it as a necklace. In this case, last week, when Muthiah was returning home from work, the dog that had cut the chain, pounced on him and bit his face and mouth.

Without the awareness that a dog bite should be given an injection immediately, with the carelessness of being a domestic dog, he only soaped the wounds and went about his usual business. But within two days he had nausea and vomiting. His family dismissed it as some sort of allergy.

But in the days that followed, Muthiya started to get scared of water and started barking like a dog. Seeing this, his family got scared and took him to the hospital. But the doctors who examined Muthiah, who had fainted on the way, said that he had died of the rabies virus caused by Naik’s bite.
