CPCL should provide rehabilitation and resettlement relief to the landowners who are on hunger strike against the oil plant. Former minister OS Manian has given an interview that the government’s ignorance of the plight of the poor people involved in the struggle is against democratic systems.
620 acres of agricultural land in the villages of Panangudi, Gopurajapuram, Muttam, Narimanam has been acquired for the expansion of CPCL oil plant located in Panangudi, Nagai district. As the amount for the acquired land is less, the CPCL management has paid the compensation amount to the court of the land owners who refused to buy it.
In addition to the acquired land, more than 100 people including land owners, cultivators and laborers have been on a continuous hunger strike for the last 6 days in Pillai Panangudi of Nagai district, demanding rehabilitation and resettlement relief.
AIADMK former minister OS Maniyan met the villagers who are on hunger strike for the 6th day today and heard their demands.
Speaking to the media after that, the former minister OS Maniyan insisted that according to the land acquisition law brought by the central government in 2013, the district administration should take action to provide rehabilitation and resettlement relief to the farmers involved in the struggle.
He accused the government of ignoring the plight of the poor people who are on hunger strike in the sun as it is against democratic principles. Therefore, he requested the government to negotiate with the protesting people and end the problem.
