It was earlier reported that Ford may re-enter India with the launch of the new updated Everest full-size SUV model. Ford was selling this model in India under the name of Endeavor, which is going to be introduced as Everest.
Ford is selling this SUV under the name Everest in other automobile markets internationally. At the time of the Endeavor’s launch in India, Ford did not own the rights to the Everest name. But now it seems that Ford has got that right. Therefore, it seems that the company will launch a new SUV in India this time under the name Everest. Well, how about this new updated SUV? Bye.
The rugged look is Everest’s primary choice. Being a rival to the Toyota Fortuner, we can expect the same ruggedness from the Everest. With a boxy body, the Everest SUV features matrix LED headlamps at the front, C-shaped DRLs and an L-shaped taillight at the rear.
The Ford Everest SUV gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen on the lower-end models and a 12.0-inch touchscreen on the top-end models. The top-end models also get ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, fully digitized instrument cluster, wireless charging, automatic climate control, FordPass connected CarTech, panoramic sunroof, electronically adjustable third row seat and powered tailgate.
Ford Everest is offering three engine options with the Everest SUV model – 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel, 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel and 3.0-litre turbo-diesel. These three engines are capable of churning out 170hp, 206hp and 246hp respectively. All three engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. While the 2.0-litre engines are offered in 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive options, the 3.0-litre engine is only offered with a 4-wheel drive option.
It is being reported that Ford is planning to start sales of this Everest SUV model by fully importing it and then assembling it in India. For this purpose, it is said that the company is going to retool their factory in Chiramamalai Nagar, Chennai to make it suitable for assembly. While the top-end variant of the Toyota Fortuner in India retails at around Rs 60 lakh ex-showroom, the price of the Everest model is also expected to reach this price on import. Also, it is expected that only one of the above three engine options will be sold in India.
