GK Vasan Urge TN Govt Pressure Karnataka And Get Cauvery Water

Karnataka continues to dispute the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. In the context of the Cauvery Management Commission meeting held yesterday, the Tamil Nadu government urged Karnataka to release 5.367 TMC water for June and 31.24 TMC water for July.

But Karnataka denied it saying that despite the monsoon rains, their dams are not full and if water is opened to Tamil Nadu, there will be shortage of drinking water in Karnataka. The Cauvery Management Authority, which has not announced any decision, has announced that it will issue an order after consultation.

Vasan Emphasis

In this context, in a statement released by Tamil State Congress President GK Vasan, the Cauvery Management Commission has already instructed the Karnataka government to release 7.236 TMC of water till June 24 and 31.24 TMC for July.
But he also accused the Karnataka government of delaying the release of 5.376 TMC of water by June itself.

Vasan said that due to the failure to release the Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu in due time, there is a shortage of water for agriculture and drinking water, and the farmers and the general public are affected. DMK, which has an alliance with the Congress party in Tamil Nadu, is not able to negotiate with the Karnataka Congress government to get Cauvery water, he questioned.

Further, he raised the question that if the alliance is important, what does the livelihood of Tamilnadu delta farmers mean, he advised that the government of Tamil Nadu should instead of ruling for the sake of politics and alliance, should come forward to take care of agriculture and people’s drinking water.

Vasan requested that the Tamil Nadu government should urge the Karnataka government to get adequate water from Cauvery to Tamil Nadu for the month of June and July.

Vasan has also insisted that the Karnataka government should act on the basis of the Cauvery Management Authority, the Supreme Court judgment and Tamil Nadu’s right to release the Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
