South Korean carmaker Hyundai has announced plans to launch more new electric vehicles in India over the next decade. Currently, it is reported that the company is planning to introduce hybrid vehicles as part of the electric vehicle project.

While the infrastructure for electric vehicles in India is still incomplete, various car manufacturers are increasingly developing hybrid vehicles along with electric vehicles. As many as 90,000 hybrid cars have been sold in India in the last financial year 2023-24 alone.

Maruti is the leader in hybrid car sales in India along with Toyota. Also, Maruti is targeting to sell 7.5 lakh hybrid cars in India by 2031. To achieve that goal, the company is gearing up to launch various new hybrid cars in the Indian automobile market.

Now Honda has also joined the ranks. Hyundai is planning to develop hybrid models of the company’s midsize SUVs and sedans, Creta, Alcazar and Verna, which are currently on sale in India. We can even expect a hybrid model of its larger SUV, the Tucson.

Currently, Hyundai is planning to develop diesel engine cars with hybrid technology for them, as diesel engine cars are mostly sold in India. This seems to be a decision taken to include pollution control regulations in India.

Hyundai, which plans to invest up to Rs 33,000 crore in India, is also planning to increase its capacity to manufacture 1.5 lakh cars in India.

It is also noteworthy that Hyundai is planning to launch an electric vehicle based on the Creta made in India within the next year and an electric vehicle that will appeal to the majority of customers in 2026-27.
