‘Maragathap Pooncholai’, as the name suggests, is a place set up by the Government of Tamil Nadu to spend a peaceful time with family and children in a peaceful environment with bamboo huts and wooden chairs on the Pudukottai-Tanjai road in our Pudukottai district with rare trees, blooming colorful flowers as far as the eye can see. In the last financial year 2022-23, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.K. announced the Emerald Greenery project as one of the pioneer projects to ensure 33 percent green area in the face of climate change by 2031. introduced by Stalin.

According to this scheme, these flower gardens are being set up in 100 places across the state in a space of one hectare i.e. 2½ acres. A fund of Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for this purpose.

In this way, in Pudukottai district, on the Pudukottai Thanjavur road, in front of the fort, these emerald flower beds are being set up at Valiyampatti, Thirumayam and Oonaiyur near Kiranur.

From saffron to rare trees:

More than 38 types of useful trees have been planted here including ma bala guava heaven, novel vilvam, almond mahogany, neem, neem, tamarind, watercress, ilupai, sheep teak, teak, whip, poovarasu, avi, nelli, spear, sandalwood, chapatikalli palm. Apart from this, trees such as senchandanam, fig, saffron, punnai, vanni, machilam, and ebony have been planted and Rasi forest has also been created.

These saplings have been selected and raised from the plantations created by the forest department. A bore well has been constructed to provide water to save these trees.

Also after the opening of this flower shop, toilets have been constructed for the convenience of people when they come and go. And the naturally designed seats made of wood are so beautiful to look at. And the huts are made of bamboo.

Pudukottai Forestry Officer has said that these emerald flower beds which have been created in the project to increase the green area will be maintained by the forest department for two years after which they will be handed over to the local administration and these flower beds will be opened to the public completely free of charge.

It is reported that these three emerald parks will be opened and will be available in the second week of June. It is also reported that the forest department is planning to create similar flower beds in many parts of the district.

There is no doubt that when these emerald flower gardens are opened, it will become a favorite tourist spot for the people of Pudukottai district.
