42A person from Jaffna, who is a London citizen, has been arrested for defrauding a Jaffna youth of 80 lakh rupees by claiming that he would get a job in London.
While the arrested person had recently come to Jaffna, he had received 80 lakh rupees from a young man from Jaffna saying that he would get a job in a department store in London.
As the person who received the money did not take steps to send the young man to London, the young man became suspicious and demanded his money back.
The London citizen was arrested by the police after the young man lodged a complaint at the police station as the person who received the money did not return it.
The police have requested that the youths of Jaffna engage in fraud targeting young women by claiming that people who have obtained citizenship abroad will get them jobs abroad.
