In Karunapuram of Kallakurichi district, the death toll has risen to 52.
In Kallakurichi, more than a hundred people who drank liquor have suffered from vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach upset, numbness in hands and feet, blurred vision etc. After this, many were admitted to the nearby Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital. More than 30 people who were treated at Kallakurichi Hospital were sent to Salem, Puducherry and Villupuram hospitals for further treatment. Those who were sent for further treatment and those who were being treated at Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital are also dying. So far 52 people have died without treatment. Also, 90 people are undergoing treatment in Kallakurichi, Salem, Villupuram and Puducherry government hospitals.
Among those who died after drinking counterfeit liquor. 28 people have died in Kallakurichi, 17 in Salem, 4 in Villupuram and 3 in Jipmar Hospital Pudu.
