The number of people who died after drinking liquor in Kallakurichi has risen to 59.
In Kallakurichi, more than a hundred people who drank liquor have suffered from vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach upset, numbness in hands and feet, blurred vision etc. After this, many were admitted to the nearby Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital.
More than 30 people who were treated at Kallakurichi Hospital were sent to Salem, Puducherry and Villupuram hospitals for further treatment. Those who were sent for further treatment and those who were receiving treatment at Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital are also dying.
So far 58 people have died without treatment. Also, 90 people are undergoing treatment in Kallakurichi, Salem, Villupuram and Puducherry government hospitals. In this case, a 34-year-old youth from Siruvangur, who was receiving treatment at the Kallakurichi Medical College Hospital, has died after drinking Kallacharya. CBCID has arrested 12 people in the fraud case so far. As the police have made arrests, the death toll has risen to 59 in Kallakurichi.
