Tamil Nadu Liquor Prohibition Amendment Bill was introduced by Chief Minister M K Stalin in the Legislative Assembly following the Kallakurichi Kallacharaya death. A new bill has been introduced to curb the sale of counterfeit liquor and narcotics, making the punishment tougher.

Accordingly, an amendment bill has been tabled in the Legislative Assembly to impose life imprisonment for selling counterfeit liquor. Minister Muthuswamy tabled the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Amendment Bill in the Legislative Assembly.

Accordingly, the law has been tightened to impose a fine of 10 lakh rupees along with rigorous imprisonment for life in case of loss of life due to sale of counterfeit liquor. The bill has also been amended to give more powers to the authorities to prevent the sale of counterfeit liquor.

The Bill has been amended to provide for the closure and sealing of alcohol consumption or sale in unauthorized premises. The amendment bill also provides for severe punishment if the same person commits repeated crimes.

The law has been amended to prevent all types of crimes like sale of counterfeit liquor and hoarding. Provision has also been made for confiscation of all movable property of those involved in the sale of bootleg liquor.

This amendment bill has been passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. It has been explained that the punishment for selling counterfeit liquor is not sufficient and now the punishment has been increased.
