Minister instructs officials to provide electricity to Delft island without interruptions

At the meeting of the Jaffna District Development Committee held recently, the Chairman of the District Development Committee and the Minister of Fisheries instructed the relevant officials to provide 24-hour electricity to Delft Island without any interruption.

Commenting further the Minister stated that he had taken measures to provide uninterrupted power supply to Delft Island by the use of large generators, but by now he received information regarding the intermittent disconnection of the power supply to this Island and measures should be taken to avert this situation in the future.

The Minister also said that the people of Delft Island have been severely inconvenienced due to the prevailing heat waves and the students who sit for G.C.E O/L Examination are affected by the intermittent power cut. Besides, the businessmen of this Island face a lot of problems due to this condition.

The Minister instructed the relevant officials to take measures to assure the continuous supply of power and pointed out that the government has taken measures to commence Wind Mill projects in this area and as a result electricity could be provided for a lower price.
