Chennai : 33 of the 39 candidates who contested against the Prime Minister in Varanasi constituency were rejected.
Voting will be held on June 1, the last day of the election in the Varanasi constituency of Uttar Pradesh, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting. Thus, the filing of nominations was completed last Tuesday (May 14). Out of a total of 40 nominations that were considered yesterday, 33 nominations were rejected. A total of 7 candidates including Prime Minister Modi are in the fray.
Shyam Rangeela from Rajasthan was among those whose nominations were rejected. He filed his nomination papers in Varanasi last Tuesday afternoon. The Election Commission declared that his candidature was rejected on the ground that he did not administer the oath of office.
In this regard, Shyam Rangeela posted his apprehension about the Election Commission on his Twitter page and released a video. Speaking in it, he accused the Election Commission of turning the election into a game in Varanasi.
And he said, today (May 15) my nomination has been rejected. If you (EC) will reject it then why did you accept it in the first place? I have submitted all the documents. Now I am told that there are problems with my documents and I am not sworn in.
I am filing nomination for the first time. I have no experience with that. I asked for permission to file nomination with lawyers and was not allowed. They called me alone. But now, they rejected me saying that I didn’t swear oath. I asked the authorities why you didn’t ask me then. But they replied that it was not their job.
I submitted the form on 14th May at 2.58 PM. If there was any problem there was time till about 3 hours. You might say right away. I have been trying to apply since May 10. But not allowed. My friend was attacked. Modiji can act and cry during election time. But I don’t want to cry here. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’m not winning here. However, I am posting this to convey this message to you,” said Shyam Rangeela in his video.
