Chennai: Today in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, the Ministers of the respective departments were answering the questions regarding the grant requests of the Department of School Education, Higher Education and Revenue Department. Then Higher Education Minister Ponmudi announced about 15 new programs planned in the higher education sector.
They will introduce 6 new degree courses in four special courses namely Government Technology, Chemical Technology, Leather Technology and Textile Technology to suit the current growing technological development.
It is planned to construct a men’s hostel to accommodate 300 people at the Government College of Technology in Coimbatore at an estimated cost of Rs 21 crore.
At a cost of Rs 14 crore, a men’s hostel for 200 students is to be constructed at the Government Engineering College, Erode.
A Men’s Hostel will be constructed at a cost of Rs 21 Crores to accommodate 300 students in the Chennai Polytechnic College campus for technical college and special education students.
A separate dormitory building will be constructed for female students in all Government Arts, Science and Education Colleges at a cost of Rs 8.55 crore.
At an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore, artificial intelligence and mechanical engineering labs are planned to be set up in three government engineering colleges at Coimbatore, Salem and Barkur.
At an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore, it is planned to set up an Electric Vehicle Technology Laboratory in three Government Engineering Colleges at Tirunelveli, Dharmapuri and Erode.
At an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore, Internet labs will be set up in two government engineering colleges at Karaikudi and Bodinayaknoor.
Steps will be taken to increase the number of students receiving intensive training for competitive exams including GATE, IES, CAT from 500 to 1400. An additional fund of Rs 77 lakh will be allocated for this purpose.
Skill development training will be provided to the teachers of Government Engineering and Technical Colleges at an estimated cost of Rs.2 crore.
7.05 Crores will be procured for the necessary logistics for the Government Arts and Science Colleges.
Steps will be taken to recreate the Tamil Nadu History Research Forum functioning at the Tamil Nadu Archives.
Adequate steps will be taken to increase the enrollment of students in Arts and Science colleges
