Feeder:
80 percent of the alternative road work from Coimbatore Mettupalayam to Ooty instead of Coonoor has been completed. Thus arrangements have been made to run the vehicles in the months of September and October.
A popular tourist destination, the hill station of Ooty is usually crowded with tourists. Not to mention the seasonal months of April, May and September and October every year.
During the season, on weekends like Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a large number of tourists come from different parts of Tamil Nadu and even from foreign countries.
Traffic Congestion:
As a result, heavy traffic jams are common in Ooty. Tourists have to turn back without visiting many places due to traffic jams.
Especially on weekends, 10 to 15 thousand vehicles come and go to Ooty. Also, even if tourists from Kerala and Karnataka states plan to stay for two or three days and visit the tourist spots, half the day is spent in crossing the traffic.
New Road to Ooty:
As it is raining now and then, there is a rule that tourist vehicles have to stop at Ooty Thalai Kunta and Coles Club road areas and take government-run cycle buses, which wastes travel time. Also there is a situation where elderly patients are unable to travel in buses.
It is in this situation that the State Highways Department has devised a new scheme, i.e. a bypass is being constructed at a cost of 40 crore rupees so that the vehicles coming from Mettupalayam can go directly to Ooty instead of going to Coonoor.
80 percent work completed:
This road is being constructed for a distance of 20.5 km. In this newly constructed detour, the vehicles coming from Mettupalayam on the Coonoor Hill route will go to Ooty via Kateri Selas Kendala Kethi Balada Kollimalai Gandhi Petty.
Once these road works are completed, many vehicles will be able to go to Ooty instead of Coonoor. This way you can avoid vehicles in many places.
The road works are 80 percent complete and it is expected to be put to use soon. It is reported that arrangements have been made to run the vehicles especially in the second season in October and September.
