Director, Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Tamil Nadu, Dr. D.S. Selvavinayagam assured the public that there is no need to fear a new wave of Covid in Singapore. He said it was a mild infection that was nothing to panic about. He said that following the outbreak of the new type of corona virus in Singapore, a large number of patients were not admitted to the hospital.
The new type of corona virus that mutated in Singapore was Omicron subtype KP. 2 (KP.2) has already been reported in some parts of India. 290 KP.2 and 34 KP.1 infections have been detected in India. Dr. D.S. said that Tamil Nadu has the necessary infrastructure to handle any situation and the entire state has vaccinated people above 18 years of age. Selvavinayagam insisted.
A top official on Wednesday said that the new wave of Covid in Singapore is a mild infection and there is no need for anyone to panic in Tamil Nadu as Tamil Nadu has the necessary infrastructure to deal with any situation.
Director of Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicines (DPHPM) Dr. T.S. Selvavinayagam said there has been a significant lack of hospital admissions of Covid-infected patients since the outbreak of new Covid-19 in Singapore.
“For the past few weeks, there have been reports of increasing cases of Covid in South Asian countries like Singapore. As far as we’re concerned, there’s no need to panic… a new type of corona virus spreading in Singapore is KP.2. A subtype of omicron has been reported in some parts of India,” said Dr. Selvavinayagam.

In a video published by DPHPM, Dr. Selvavinayagam said that this new type of corona infection has only caused mild infections so far and no serious infections have been reported so far.
“Not only that, we have fully vaccinated people above the age of 18 in Tamil Nadu. So, even if an infection does occur, it is mild and does not require hospitalization.” said Dr. Selvavinayagam.
However, wearing a face shield in public places is a necessary precaution and the elderly, sick and pregnant women should be extra careful. Otherwise, Dr. Selva Vinayagam said that no one needs to panic.
Also, “Covid, like other flus, has now become a respiratory infection. Even one or two waves per year are possible, but there is no need to panic. Have sufficient immunity. In any case, Tamil Nadu has the necessary infrastructure to deal with an epidemic.” said Dr. Selvavinayagam.
