Plavackal Periyar dam with a full capacity of 47 feet is located at the foothills of the Western Ghats near Vathirairipu in Virudhunagar district.
Plavackal Periyar Dam
Plavackal Periyar Dam currently has a water reserve of 26 feet. 8.53 cubic feet of water per second is flowing into Plavakal Periyar dam.
Water opening
At present, 50 cubic feet of water has been released from Plavackal Periyar Dam for second round irrigation.
Agricultural lands
926 acres of agricultural lands of 5 Kanmais under the Pravakal scheme will benefit from this water release. Four revenue villages namely Kodikulam, Vathrayiru and Coomapatti will be benefited by this.
Department of Water Resources
The Public Works Department officials have asked all the farmers to cooperate with the Water Resources Department officials in using water sparingly with the aim of getting higher yields.
