Chennai: Congress leaders paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary.
Today is the black day when former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated near Chennai. Rajiv Gandhi, the eldest son of Indira and Peroz Gandhi, took charge of the Congress in 1984 following the assassination of his mother and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
He came to Sriperumbudur for election campaign in 1991 and was killed with a bomb. 14 innocent lives were lost along with him. Rajiv Gandhi, India’s youngest Prime Minister at the age of 40, was assassinated like his mother.
Today being his 33rd death anniversary, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former president Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi paid floral tributes at the memorial in Delhi.
